Using this page, you may search the 401st's Historical Database for information regarding Crewman, Aircraft and Missions.
Using this page.
The Search Page is divided into three main searches: Search for Crewman, Search for Aircraft and Search for Missions. You may access each of these search functions by clicking one of the tabs, above.
Each tab will display several fields. These are the criteria that you may search on. When you enter data into one or more fields and press enter, or the "Search" button, any matching information will be displayed in this window.
For each Search Function, you may enter the following values:
Search for Crewmen.
- Last Name: This searches for the last name of a specific crewman. You may enter the full name of that crewman, or, if you are not certain, you may match on part of that crewman's name. I.e. you may see all crewman whose last name begins with "Mac" by entering "Mac%" into the field. You may also see all crewman whose last name ends with "son" by entering "%son" into the field.
- Combat Role: Simply select the combat role from the pull-down list.
- Crew Leader: This searches for the Leader, or "Crew Name" of a specific crew. It will return all crew members lead by that person. The rules for matching using the % symbol are the same as the Last Name field, above.
- Squadron: This searches for a specific squadron or squadrons. Leaving any unchecked will return all aircraft for every squadron and any aircraft whose squadron is not known.
Search for Aircraft.
- Aircraft: This will return any aircraft that match the specified criteria. You may enter the Aircraft Name, it's Serial Number, or it's Code (SC-N, IW-J, IY-C). When entering the Aircraft Name, you may also use the % symbol in using exactly the same rules for matching against a Crewman's name. When entering Serial number, it is not necessary to enter the prefix. I.e. even though an aircraft might have a Serial Number of 44-6508, you only need enter 6508.
- Crewman: This is the last name of the Crewman you are looking for. The rules for matching are exactly the same as the one's for Crewman on the Crewman search, above.
- Squadron: This will match any plane for a given Squadron. Once again, the rules are exactly the same as those for the Crewman search, above.
- Mission: This will return all Aircraft that participated in a mission or missions. You may enter either the Mission Number (1-254) or the Mission Target (Berlin, Paris, Frankfurt, etc). Matching rules using the % sign are exactly the same as those for Aircraft Name or Crewman's Last Name.
Search for Missions.
- Mission: This will return either a specific mission or a list of missions. You may enter either the Mission Number (1-254) or the Mission Target (Berlin, Paris, Frankfurt, etc). Matching rules using the % sign are exactly the same as those for Aircraft Name or Crewman's Last Name.
- Aircraft: This will return any aircraft that participated in this mission or missions. You may enter the Aircraft Name, it's Serial Number, or it's Code (SC-N, IW-J, IY-C). The rules are the same as in the Aircraft search, above.
- Crewman: This will return the missions that this crewman participated in. This is the last name of the Crewman you are looking for. The rules for matching are exactly the same as the one's for Crewman on the Crewman search, above.
