Allison C. Brooks
Operations Officer, 401st Bombardment Group (H)
Lt. Colonel Allison C. Brooks
was selected by Colonel Bowman as Group Operations Officer while the Group was in training
in the United States, and he served in that position through much of the operational
period.
He flew 21 missions with the
401st and was the Group lead for the famous mission to Oscherslaben on 11 January 1944,
considered the greatest air battle of the War, and for which the 401st was awarded the
Presidential Unit Citation.
Colonel Brooks left the 401st
to become Commanding Officer of No. 1 Scouting Force, flying P-51's in advance of bomber
strikes.
